08 Participant Recommendations

Three
Learning along the way with the workshop, I was deeply touched and benefited time and again from each high-quality and empowering lecture and sharing session. I am extremely grateful for Yinuo’s strong network and dedication to creating a high-quality workshop, as well as for the wholehearted accompaniment and guidance of the teaching assistants and the team. We were fortunate to receive wonderful insights from guest speakers and other outstanding participants. This workshop was so worth it, and indeed, I gained a lot!

Sun
What resonated most with me:
First, the part about how to reshape your identity and establish yourself as a master in the U.S., including Yinuo’s discussion of American history, universal values, the American workplace, and the guest speakers’ and TAs’ exploration of identity and the personal hero’s journey in adapting to life and work in the U.S. This gave me more confidence to survive and thrive in America.
Second, meeting peers in similar professional stages in North America. For example, joining the Thanksgiving gathering; mid-career professionals are a minority among international students, and my social exploration in the U.S. has been somewhat polarized, so meeting people in similar life stages who are also Chinese in America made me feel less lonely and more connected.
Third, the reflection on modernization and its critique in China over recent years, both in the courses and group discussions. For me, this felt like a group therapy session addressing the collective trauma from the pandemic, which was quite healing.

Tudou
The workshop felt like climbing a mountain, with companions from the group to share the journey, insights, and experiences. The mentors provided guidance and inspiration, the TAs offered their shares and support, and the class teacher was constantly encouraging and setting standards. My internal growth and expanding vision kept improving, making this mountain climb very joyful and immersive.

Happy
This workshop truly offered a multi-faceted experience: focusing on what’s nearby, realizing that real life is in the everyday, and recognizing how I had turned my life into an isolated island; appreciating the importance of combining sports hobbies with scientific training through Changhang’s rigorous coaching; being fascinated by nature through Niulian’s insect research; Kate’s workplace insights helped me see my own shadow and learn that expressing myself enables connections with others; Danting’s courage in facing and dealing with what he dared not look at before (the imprisoned self). A rich and colorful life follows, and I must thank the TAs for their guidance, even though I am still far from it, I am learning to accept it.
